The Good Ole Days & ANOTHER Pay It Forward Giveaway!!!

So as I was guzzling sipping wine politely with my gal pal Jen we got onto the topic of college and "the good ole days". And if there was a time in life we'd re-live, it'd be our college days. We swapped stories of smuggling alcohol into our rooms and how we did it. Some of us on the sly (sneaking it in through ground floor windows) and others, well, not so sly (clanking bottles in overloaded backpacks).

We swapped stories of "pre-functioning" bar visits to make our dollars stretch the farthest. We relished at how easy it was to "cure" hangovers. Just a cheeseburger or grilled cheese would do the trick.

Heck, we even looked at some fun drunk pictures from college.

It was fun to wax nostalgically about the "good ole days". And then we (pathetically) had to admit how old mature we are now. We had to fess up to the fact that the "good ole days" are over and if we drink as much now as we drank then we need a day or two to recover. Isn't it great to get old age with beauty and grace?!

So...here is my question to you. What do you relish as "the good ole days"? What time in your life would you want to re-live?

Leave your answer in the comments section as an entry into my SECOND PAY IT FORWARD GIVEAWAY. (if you really can't come up with anything, tell me the name of a good, but not overly expensive chardonnay because I'm cheap I'm on a tight budget.)

I honestly would go straight back to elementary school..........when Grandpa would wait for us and walk us to their house after school. He would have treats for us and he and Grandma took care of us alot. WOW............now those were the good days......being taken care of and not having a worry in the world.

I would return to the place I am slowly rebuilding now, a time when I canned our fruit and jam and pickles. When I baked all of the bread, I enjoyed those days. I haven't kept my canning kettle all these years for nothing!

Hmmmm, I wouldn't go back to a time period. I would love to go back to certain days of my life, but not an overall period!

I think the good ol' days would include early elementary school. Riding my yellow 'Cactus Rose' bike with mary & amy pretending to be Charlie's Angels. Before I knew what a 'body image' was and before I even realized I had to wear a top when I went swimming. I would go back to the rope swing and climbing trees...when the only worry was getting stung by a bee. I would only go back to that time if I didn't have to find my way through the teenage years again!

I would stay right here. The feeling that things are working out just right is the best, and staying at this place in my life wouldn't be half bad I think!

I would want to be a kid of ten again.

Carefree, happy and no worries, just play and have fun.

I'm facing age 67 later this week and the good ole days for me were my early 50s when I and my husband were both energetic enough to do lots of walking when we traveled. Nowadays we do more sitting at sidewalk cafes than anything else.

High school. In a minute. I went to a boarding school, and those were really awesome years - good friends, fun activities, great teachers. Even the regular HS crap wasn't that bad. I loved high school!

Back to my late teens and early 20's only because I just really didn't feel I had much responsibility back then and that means I didn't worry about too much back then either. Just to be able to step back in time for a bit and not have those worries about kids, husband, home, pets, money, and everything for a bit would be nice. Of course, I want it all back after a while :-)

Hmmm . . . I miss the days after my husband and I were married but didn't have any kids. I got pregnant nine months after we got married, was still in college, etc. so I miss the time when it was just the two of us. I do like how we will be young when (if?) the kids leave home though!

I am also a third grade teacher so I know the pressures you are under now.

I miss the good ole days of college when I always had time and friends around to hang out and grab a beer.

I just saw the movie Kit Kittredge and it brought back so many memories of my Grandma telling me about the times she grew up in and how hobo's would come and knock on their door for food.

I would go back to when my Grandma was alive.

I would go back to summer time as a kid. Our house was the house in the neighborhood at which all the kids gathered. In the middle of the hot afternoon, after we had run through the sprinklers a few times, my mom would open a box of popsicles and we would sit on the stairs chatting. That led to a game of frozen tag or red rover. It was a great time!!

Is it bad of me that high school was the good old days? I loved high school. And college was pretty good, too. And the first several years post college were really good. Actually, any of those years would be fine. And I'm not too unhappy with my life right now. Hmmm...

I would give about anything to relive my college days, too! I had the time of my life at the two different colleges I ended up attending. I was a "flower child" of the 60's. I had a wild ride through that time period with friends.....the time of my life!! I miss my friends. I miss the wine. I miss the music. I miss the drugs. I miss the free spirit of that time period. I miss the intense emotions we had. I miss it all! Most people now would never suspect what this innocent retired teacher did 40 years ago!

I would probably go back to about third or fourth grade - old enough to do a lot and be left alone, but not old enough yet to worry over teen stuff, clothes, makeup, etc.

I can remember playing "the Boxcar Children" in my walkin closet with other kids, trying to act out the characters in the book. (I was/am a big reader.)

I actually enjoyed school those couple of years. I had mostly good teachers.

I did not have my braces on my teeth yet, my woman cycle, zits, a bra or any of that annoying adult stuff to deal with.

The worst decisions I had to make were what books to get from the library and whether to get a coke or cherry flavored icee every Sunday afternoon with my DIME!

aHHH - THOSE WERE THE DAYS!!

Did I mention chasing fireflies in the summer?

Thanks for the giveaway and the trip down memory lane.

I would go back to my carefree college days. Freedom and fun. No responsibility

I would love to go back to the time that I just moved out on my own and started college. That was so fun and it would be nice to go back with the knowledge I have now!

The good ole days, hmmm... don't really like to think about changing anything because, if you change one thing, you change everything. I don't want to relive any particular time in my life. I like living in the here and now. I would prefer that we weren't at war right now. Thats something I would change if I could. Other than that happy to be alive and living in the present, lol.

Thanks.

Oh boy, the good old days...I look back fondly on a time when I had a pretty trivial job and my husband (then my fiance) was going to graduate school. We had very little money, but we seemed to have such freedom. We took a 3 month cross country trip on a very low budget and both had jobs to return to when we returned. We had no pets then, no house, etc. I think back very fondly on that time, but doubt I would trade my current life for that one...even though it seems so tempting. Thanks for letting me think back on another time.

The good ole days for me was when our children were growing up. We lived in a great neighborhood with great neighbors. It was a very cooperative group.

I Would love to go back to my first Apartment. I was 17 still in high school It was such a fun time. My now husband and I for over 10 years were having a baby and decided that was the perfect excuse to make a break for it. After years of growing up in an abusive homes we finally had a place of my own where I felt safe and like I belonged. I remember how much fun it was to do things you weren’t supposed to do. I had ice cream for breakfast, chocolate for dinner and played Nintendo when ever I wanted. Ah the freedom of being on your own.

High school was a blast I was in special ed & we did so many fun things we took field trips to the mall and got to work at lots of different places to try out different jobs. Working in the grocery store for job site restocking we tossed toilet paper or (Tp for bun hole as we called it) and paper towels to each other as soon as the job coach walked away. If we were in separate isle’s we’d knock some off the top shelf into the other isle. At each other when we found the chance. Throwing hot pepper stems at each other on the mini bus back to school. Oh how the bus driver must have hated picking them up never knowing where they came from.

We had a kid with autism that was sooo smart her could tell you every song written in the 80’S, What year & who sang it. But couldn’t seem to remember what things not to do at school. Once he hit puberty he had no trouble keeping his hands to him self so to speak. He did however have trouble keeping them off himself. I remember how much fun it was to hear the teacher yell at him to put his hand on the top of the desk. She had to hire a male aid to keep reminding him & escort him to the bath room. With out him he was gone for an hour.

My teacher was like my mom then she made sure I had a dress for the prom she picked one up at salvation army and had the home ec teacher alter to look fancy. It was reject brides maid dress but they made it into something truly special. They did a beautiful job on it. I was so proud to wear it.

We all had so much fun together we were all one big family in my class. which I so needed at that time in my life. Those years were filled with so much kindness and acceptance for just being who I am. Those were the years I knew I was loved.

they say you can't go back and maybe they are right. If I went back in time to fix things the lessons I have learned would not have made me the person I am now. Sometimes I wish I could hold one of my sons in my arms again as I did when they were babies. Now, however, they are grown men. One of them is 30 and a father and the other is a soldier in Iraq. An empty nest can be empty but not lonely if you've raised your kids with love.

I do miss hearing young folks say "yes ma'am" and "no, ma'am". Now all I hear is "yeah" and "whatever". Manners have really drifted, would like to see politeness make it's way back into the world.

*sigh* Oh college, college. Where did you go? That was fun reminiscing with you the other day. I still need to dig out that one photo I promised ya! ;)

Barefoot makes a decent chardonnay. Good merlot too, although I know you're not big on the reds. :)

The good old days were when I was first married, had my first job, my first apartment, and my first taste of adulthood. Money was tight, sex was easy and lighthearted, life was exciting! I might wish now to have done things a bit differently, but all in all, that was a great time of life...the great "they" are right - enjoy the present - in hindsight I never knew how happy I was! Still enjoying my life, but it's quieter now, and knowledge doesn't always bring power, sometimes it brings responsibility! Thanks though, thinking about things like this is enlightening.

I'd go back to the fabulous and awesome 3 years I lived in Japan, fresh out of college when the world was at my feet. I'd have stayed in a little less and traveled a little more. It breaks my heart that I didn't visit Thailand, Vietnam, The Philippines or South Korea. Or Australia. So many places once so near are now so far. Still, I cherish the memories I made in Japan, and I did travel to Singapore and Malaysia. Oh, and I went to Hong Kong alone on my favorite trip ever. So, yes, I wouldn't really trade it but would relive it only to live it more fully. :)

I still believe my "good ole days" are ahead of me... when neither my husband nor I are still in university and have careers instead of jobs...we've got our own place with a back yard and room for a puppy for our doggy obsessed 2-yr-old. Love the life I have now but looking forward to the future good ole days!

I like to think I'm building up to the years I'll always look back on as the "good ole days." I HATED High School, my childhood pretty much sucked, and the early 20s have been tough. But life is starting to stabalize now, I'm married to a great guy, we have two wonderful kids, hubby's finally got a well paying job and I'm going back to school - the best is yet to come!

Probably the summers during High School (because who wants to go back to doing homework). I had some great friends and some great times.

I would go back to elementary age, long summer days. Bike riding, playing, sprinklers, kickball, not a care in the world. I also loved college. No responsibilities. It seems so long ago.

What a great question...I had fun thinking about this one. I would like to go back to college (just for a week!) where all my friends lived in the same building and we stayed up late eating Papa John's pizza. Or, when we would go to the bars for .25 beer night...if only we knew then what a great bargain that was! :) Oh...the good ol' days!

I miss the unselfconsciousness of youth, before puberty set in. But then, I seem to have regressed, since I now blog about poop.

My Good ol' days was really my Junior year of high school. My best friends in the world were the four guys I was in drama with, and every weekend was spent doing something fun with them. One of them eventually became my boyfriend at the very end of the year, and one is still my best friend to this day. Great memories that I'd happily relive and possibly even do things a little differently.
