Hands Free Only My Friends in Washington

So I'm here to educate today...if you live in the wonderful state of Washington or travel through it, you must understand our wonderful insanely idiotic new law of hand free cell phone devices only goes into effect TODAY.

Now I'm not saying that I am unsupportive of people not texting, dialing and talking while they drive. I do support that idea. I just think it's a bit crazy to feel the need to make it a law. I wanna say, "hey people....get a grip and just be responsible, stop texting and driving". But alas our WA lawmakers have deemed that their constituents are unable to do this and now need a punitive law to encourage responsible driving cell phone usage.

Yup, if you're "caught holding a mobile phone to your ear" you risk a $124 ticket. Oh, but there is a loophole. Should you need to dial 911, you're welcome to do it sans hand free device. Thanks oh gracious lawmakers! And, the violation is a so-called secondary offense. That means an officer must first stop the driver for some other violations, such as speeding; then the cell phone offense can be added to the ticket. (But I've heard mention that it's really not hard at all to find a primary offense...it can be something as simple as not using your turn signal.)

So in wanting to educate my millions thousands hundreds of very few readers, I did some research. I discovered that there are other states that have a similar laws. They are: California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania and Utah.

With having said all that I am off to charge my blue tooth and am mourning the devilish idea I had yesterday that I didn't do. I thought, wouldn't it be fun to drive past a police officer and hold my phone to my ear and look at him/her and stick out my tongue with a nyah, nyah type of look. Yeah, I didn't do it. I chickened out. With that, I'm off to enjoy my child-free day thanks to my gal pal Shari. Yeah, love childcare trades, I have her cherubs tomorrow!!!
